After several days of deliberation, ESPN execs have decided to yank the plug on their relationship with Hank Williams Jr. over his controversial comments on Fox News about President Obama, comparing his golf outing with Speaker of the House, John Boehner, like Adolph Hitler getting together with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And when asked to clarify the statement, he made sure it was clear that President Obama is Hitler in his analogy.
Williams' song, a weekly remix of his hit "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight", has been used to open Monday Night Football for over 20 years and on two networks (ABC & ESPN).
Williams posted this comment on his website, "By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It's been a great run."
Our take is that freedom of speech is alive and well. You can even get fired for it if you'd like! What are your thoughts? Please post a comment below.
